As anyone who has been coming to this website may know, I am a Pink Floyd fan. The original name for this site was Joe's Dark Side of the Moon. It is with great sadness that I read that one of the founding members of Pink Floyd passed away yesterday. Rick Wright, the keyboardist for Pink Floyd died of cancer at the age of 65. He had recently worked with Pink Floyd band mate David Gilmore on Gilmore's solo effort. His passing really makes you think about the "older" bands that you enjoy. I personally can say that I never thought about their age and hoped against hope that there would just be another album or reunion tour. Now, it looks like it will never happen. As I drove home today, I grew tired of listening to the chatter on the St. Louis airwaves, so I pushed play on the CD player, not knowing what was queued up. I found it somewhat fitting that on this beautiful day, when the thoughts of mortality of the musicians I have loved lingered in my head, with the moon-roof open and the windows down, the melodic synthesizer from "Wish You Were Here" started. This being my favorite album and the synchronicity of the moment made me realize. Even though those we have listened to and enjoyed countless times may now be passing, and with increasing age against them, more frequently, they have left us a gift that will stay with us forever. For that, I say Thank You......And Shine On!
